In the first of what I hope will become a series of short messages to be shot in Winona ‘The Fifty’ Cemetery, I explore important issues of life and death without getting preachy. Today, I wonder aloud, “how do you smile though your heart is aching? How do you smile even when it’s breaking?” SMILE explores the important difference between happiness and joy. This video is done in memory of my brother-in-law, Steve.

Invited to preach at Burlington’s Wellington Square, I was happy to oblige even if the Biblical text was not too familiar to me and their standard 30-minute sermon length proved daunting. And then COVID struck! Added to the heap of challenges was that the sermon needed to be videotaped. For better (and, occasionally, worse) here’s my first foray into video. Huge thanks to my daughter, Anna, who edited the beast and added the graphics. No, this isn’t a good sermon, but it does include a good message and Elio’s story will inspire you!
